#Thinks that I went to Spiti in Sept 2021 and why am I even writing about it now in 2024? Well, because until I write this, I can't chronologically move ahead to document other travel stories. #Just something in my head! #Let's get this done before I fill my bag with more stories!
Am I gonna tell you what all I did in Spiti? No. Any other website can help you! Search in Google with the keywords "Spiti Itinerary" and you will get all possible combinations of long and short trips to Spiti. Fact check? A typical trip to Spiti would last around 5-7 days but I was blessed to be in heaven for almost 13 days! Yes, double what usual people spend. Thanks to my trip planner, Tripver for this. So technically there won't be anything that I missed in Spiti. So not gonna dump here how awesome my trip was but I am gonna share here how I was about to end up dying in Spiti. Hell yes!
Know Nako? A very beautiful village in Himachal, precisely valley in Spiti. Again, not dumping any pics here because Google will give you lakhs of mesmerizing pictures of this place. So with my folks, I reached Nako at somewhere 5 pm. Day? I don't remember. Is not that what it's supposed to be?
Well now hear me out here.
After a long day's trip travel from Chitkul to Nako, we end up in a small guest house (call it a village ka Airbnb) in Nako. Super tired, too much movement, and hence we retire to our rooms for a good shower. Me and my roommate take our own sweet time to get done with our showers. She leaves to catch up with a friend while I go for my shower. It's pretty cold outside. Maybe around 6-7 degrees. Unfortunately, the geyser stops working. I had to take a head bath. And in mid of it all, I start feeling dizzy. I think it's the tiredness from the travel. I head for a shower, take a head bath with cold water, and come back to feel more dizzy. That's when I realized something was not right. I get dressed to go and meet my friend in another room and that's when I come across our Trip Instructor Aniketh and Ashish consoling one of our co-travelers, a lady who was 56 years old. Now what was she doing here? Well, her daughter, someone of my age had got her mom for this trip since her mom wanted to. Now what was happening here? Well, Aunty had dropped her oxygen levels to 56. Scary right? Think of all this in just a post-COVID time when oxygen levels and oxymeters were a big thing. A normal human being needs to have an oxygen level of close to 97-100. And here we had this lady who was just the half. I got shit scared. Aniketh and Ashish were telling Aunty how she couldn't be taken further and she had to be sent back to Delhi in mid of the trip because no risk could be taken. Our next destination was Chandrataal which was another roller coaster altogether. The temperature in Chandrataal is less than 0 degrees and the oxygen levels are at their lowest. In such a situation, given her age, our trip instructors waved a red alert for her.
All this while, I was hearing how Aunt, her daughter, Ashish, and Aniketh were trying to negotiate the conversation. Simultaneously I was also trying to make sense of my condition. I exited the room because the conversation was getting heavier for me and slid directly into my friend's room. They were discussing movies and songs there. Liked it? No.
Came back to my room. Took out the oximeter that I was carrying. (All thanks to my dad for insisting to keep it). Checks the oxygen.
Guess what?
MY OXYGEN LEVELS WERE AT 65. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE 98.
What just happened?
I lost my confidence. I thought I screwed up. I am about to die and I planned my funeral. Slowly and gradually went to my friends to tell them what's kept where in my luggage, you, know, Just in case?
Meanwhile, enjoy some gen AI clip of Nako! Tried to play around!
